What's it like to be a farmer? Where does my food come from? How is it grown? Enjoy a rural ramble and explore answers to these questions on the “Tour of Farms" on Sunday, July 25. Free, family-oriented, self-guided event – choose from 18 farms and winery sites to visit on the Saanich Peninsula, through the Cowichan Valley and north to Parksville. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where can I find a Tour map? Tour maps are available at Community Info Boards at select Thrifty Foods and Country Grocers in the Greater Victoria area, as well as many recreation centres, libraries, farm stands and tourist info centres. Maps also available online at www.islandfarmfresh.com/touroffarms.htm

As you know, a lot of programs like StrongStart go on hiatus for the summer, but the calendar is still filled with many excellent and stimulating programs for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
Burnside Gorge Community Centre - Offers drop-in programs until August 19, including "Babies at the Beach," an outdoor drop-in that meets at a different beach every Monday (except BC Day.)
CRD - Nearly a dozen outdoor special events and drop-in programs have been added, and the CRD also offers guided walks, paddles and hikes, many of which are free and do not require registration (check the website for age limits and other exceptions.)
Preschoolers in the Park - What a wonderful way to explore the parks and meet other parents in a relaxed, outdoor setting.
The Greater Victoria Public Libraries offer Drop-in Family Storytimes throughout July, but also check out some of their registered programs for preschoolers. All programs are free.
Esquimalt Recreation - has drop-in kindergym for only $2.75 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Call ahead to reserve your spot.
Some other playgroups and kindergyms are still running, including the free kindergym on Fridays at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre. Also check out the Dad's Drop-in on Saturday mornings at Saanich Neighbourhood Place.
I know there is no shortage of things to do with your children all summer long on this wonderful island of ours, including the important pastime of doing nothing at all! Take care and enjoy one another!
