The Victoria Stroller is a resource to help parents and caregivers with children between the ages of newborn to 6 to find things to do around Greater Victoria. The tools on this website include

-a blog for highlighting parks, programs and events information;
-a drop-in calendar of free and low-cost programs such as playgroups and kindergyms;
-a free kid-friendly directory of favourite parks, restaurants, coffee shops and services (coming soon);
-a family events listing provided by HarbourLiving.ca;
-and articles contributed by local parents with a range of views and parenting styles.

The goal of this website is to make it easy for families and caregivers with young children to discover local affordable resources and plan their day-to-day activities in our community.

A Kid-Friendly Guide to Victoria

The Victoria Stroller is the personal project and community service of Melissa Hogg. I am a stay-at-home mom living in Saanich, BC. My background includes a B.A. in English and a B.Com. in Marketing, and a variety of work experience in marketing, sales, and human resources. I created the website at the start of 2008 as a means of income and for parents like me to find free and low-cost programs and events for babies, toddlers and preschool children. Then
PLAY hired me as a marketing consultant for the Early Years Community Appreciation Awards, a survey of favourite parks, restaurants, coffee shops and free services for families with young children. By the end of the year I had upgraded the website and included a newChild-Friendly Directory, featuring the results (with permission) of PLAY's survey. Parents can now add or review their favourite locations and resources, making it a valuable tool for parents to share information and for local service providers and businesses to learn more about the special needs of this demographic.

Community Benefits

The Victoria Stroller is a free and valuable community service which finds and removes barriers to hundreds of free and low-cost opportunities for learning, literacy, creativity, recreation, meeting other parents, and community involvement. It can support and enrich the experience of early childhood care and promote an active lifestyle for families in Victoria. The Victoria Stroller can help to reward and encourage businesses to become even more child-friendly, and it reveals the Greater Victoria community as a great place to raise our children!
