I am currently working on the Child-friendly Directory of this website, and I find that I am collecting a number of links to resources--blogs, newsletters, meetup groups--which are being created by and for local parents. So, I've created a category to feature these links, called Local Parent Groups and Websites, which includes both meetup.com groups and blogs, (and the title may evolve to support cottage industry products as well.) It is absolutely free to put a listing in the Directory, so please contact me if you have a project and are interested in a link exchange or partnering in some way. My favourite new resource by a local parent is a blog written by Eleanor and her 2.5 year old son, who have made it their mission to find the best playgrounds in Victoria. She started this without ever seeing my original blog, so obviously great minds think alike! Eleanor focuses on playgrounds and both her list and dedication are phenomenal; plus, readers can rate their favourite parks out of 5 stars and vote for the playground of the week. Follow along with their journey at Swings and Roundabouts.

I love the Toy Box Toy Library at Vic West Y. I would like to compile a complete list of all the toy libraries in the capital region, but so far I've only found two. Please add a comment or send me an email me if you happen to know of any others! Sooke Family Resource Society, 105 – 2145 Townsend Road S, Sooke - The Toy and Equipment Lending Library has durable, fun and educational toys, theme bins and child care equipment for loan to Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) and Family members. The library was one of the first of its kind in the Greater Victoria area when it was developed by parent volunteers in 1988. Recently, the volunteer library has been amalgamated with the theme bins and child care equipment of the CCRR to create a valuable resource for anyone caring for young children in Sooke and the Westshore. Vic West Y , 521 Craigflower Road, Esquimalt - The Toy Library is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The membership cost is $50/year or $35/six months. The loan time for each toy is 2 weeks, but can be extended by phone, and toys may be reserved. For more information or to become a member contact Betty-Ann: Home: 744-3614 (message system available) YMCA - Saturdays, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM - 388-6120 Ext. 305.
